Friday Night Knit Club 4/12/13

Hello all. It’s that time again. Fun, knitting, crochet, friends, Friday Night!

This Friday Night Knit Club will run a little diffrently than previous FNKC (I love acronyms). While the Twisted Loop Yarn Shop is not an official participant in the Twin Cities Yarn Shop Hop, we will not close between the hours of 3 & 6. We will be open from 10am until 9:00pm-ish or later.

New Building Block – Block of the Month Dates

After many requests from many of you, I have scheduled an additional Building Blocks – Block of the Month Class. This will be an EVENING class. Yes, a much coveted class on a very coveted evening. This class will take place the last Thursday of the month beginning April 25th.

If you’re looking to knit better, read a pattern, tackle a chart, do cables etc… all of that is included in this class. Don’t be scared all of you new knitters. We take it block by block, building on the skills you learned in the block previously worked… hence “building blocks”. We’ll build a nice foundation for you to work from. I’ve learned a few tricks with this class/workshop as well! The only requirement for this class is that you know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. That’s it!

Here’s the 411 on the class:

Registration must be received no later than Monday, April 8th.
The Block of the Month Afghan is worked in 10 skeins of SimpliWorsted Yarn by Skacel
Ask anybody currently who is working on this afghan how wonderful this yarn is… they can’t stop talking about it!
If you are doing your afghan in all one color we will special order the yarn on April 8th
I will order up to 3 colors for any one customer
You may work the afghan in many different colors if you wish

Please look at the classes schedule for the dates (scroll waaaaay down to the bottom of the page). I have made a few alternate date changes in October, November and December to accomodate holidays.

3/5/13 CLOSED – SNOW DAY!

For the first time in 5 years the Prior Lake/Savage Area Schools have closed for a “Snow Day”. I can’t tell you how excited I am! I love snow days! A great time to snuggle in and watch Netflix or a marathon of Pirates of the Carribean or Harry Potter or BOTH!

I have decided not to break with tradition. The Twisted Loop Yarn Shop will be observing it’s own “Snow Day” today. So hunker down, enjoy the lovely blanket of snow and know that by Saturday most of this will be melted. Welcome to late winter early spring in Minnesota.

Meeting of the Minds = Fun Spring Classes

After a month of intense negotiations and meetings of the greater minds we here at the Twisted Loop Yarn Shop are proud to announce our Spring Class Schedule!

Kathryn, Shari, Renne’ and Jenni have come up with many great classes you’ll find fun, light and technically challenging. Along with our perennial favorites (magic loop socks, beginning knitting, beginning crochet, fingerless mitts etc…) I’m sure we have something for you.

CLOSED 2/4/13 – I’ve lost the COLD/FLU War of 2013

After a week of fighting the COLD/FLU War, I’ve succumbed to this enemy. On Saturday evening the runny nose, body and headaches won their battles.

New Classes in February and March!

We’ve been busy at the Twisted Loop Yarn Shop. I’d like to welcome Shari, Renne and Kathryn to the shop. I am lucky to have these wonderful women join me in teaching, encouraging and mentoring all knitters and crocheters that come in for help, support and sometimes sympathy (for the bad mojo project).

2,013 Hats in 2013

To be perfectly honest I’m a really selfish knitter. Unless you are able to muster up a copiously large amount of “ooohhhing and aaahhhing” and recite poetry of your undying love for the project I’ve just spent a small part of my life making for you, you will not receive handknit items from me. EVER!

However, I do enjoy knitting for those who will never know, understand or appreciate what I’ve made for them. Funny though, many of you are the same way. Knitting hats, scarves and mittens for complete strangers while our family members are forced to shop at JCPenney’s and Eddie Bauer for their outerwear.

Knitting for people we will never meet isn’t hard but getting said handknit wonderfulness to those who need it can be. The Twisted Loop Yarn Shop is going to fill that need for the year 2013. We have made a goal of collecting 2,013 hats for men, women, children and newborns. If 200 people knit 11 hats over the course of the year, we’ll have met that goal plus a few hats to spare.

I’ve posted a few pattern links, per group and the yarn criteria for each group as well. Please feel free to use any pattern you wish – not just those listed below.
