I can be taught

Tonight as the family settled in for a movie, popcorn and their regular seats on the big brown sofa, I decided to learn how to crochet.  Many of you know my eldest is a pretty good crocheter.  Making samples for the shop, fun, weird little creatures for her friends and little sister she has racked up quite the sum of crocheted items.

I’ve dabbled in crochet.  I am able to make a pretty crappy, really tight crochet chain.  Yup, that’s it a chain.  Often twisted, tight and nigh impossible to pass oxygen through, I would merrily knit the longest crochet chain in the known universe.  This past Monday I accepted an invitation to join Pinterest (aka black hole of time) and I discovered a world of cuteness, flowers, and Granny Squares I couldn’t resist.  And thus, another hobby is born.

Patiently the eldest child taught me how to single crochet, half-double crochet, and double crochet.  I confidently crocheted for two hours until my right hand curled up like the lump of flesh under Captain Hook’s hook.  I am currently typing this blog with a pen held in my mouth tapping on the keys.

Tomorrow is another day.  I do have samples to knit for the shop and classes to teach, but I have a new passion.  This bodes well for my crocheting customers!  Come Monday, I will seriously start looking for really great crochet!  I do maintain that knitting is still easier than crochet… the verdict, however, may change.  No double jeopardy in the fiber arts world.

Happy Knitting and Crocheting
